WHAT IS WEC?

The Western Engineering Competition (WEC) is Western Canada’s largest undergraduate engineering competition, bringing together 11 applied science institutions for a five-day event. WEC was founded in 1985 with the purpose of bringing talented students together to practice and exhibit their problem solving, team-building, and communication skills.

ENGINEERING CHANGES LIVES

Working in conjunction with Engineers Geoscientists Manitoba, the organizing committee has chosen the theme for WEC 2019 to be “Engineering Changes Lives“. This current initiative encompasses the idea that engineers are enablers of change that impact all aspects of society. Through expanding diversity and inclusion in membership, effective change can provide means to further protect the public safety and interest. From providing safe drinking water to protecting the environment, ensuring friends and family can stay connected with new technology to bringing food to the kitchen table, engineers have a fundamental impact on society and quality of life. During the competition participants will be challenged with elements of practical and complex engineering problems, focusing on the crucial role of the professional engineer in today’s society
